Let the Weary Continue On

“This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.”

1 Timothy 4:10

Do you ever feel weary? I don’t just mean tired, I mean weary… Your body feels heavy, your mind is foggy, and you don’t even have the energy to express any emotion. You feel blank, like you are just existing from one day to the next without any real direction, any real purpose, or any hope for a break from the cycle you are stuck in. Weariness isn’t just a body condition, it's a soul condition. There are a lot of different circumstances that can put you in this place. Hard family issues, financial issues, mental health issues, addiction, illness, and many many other things that can make us weary. Whatever our struggle is, we all need something to help us continue on. 1 Timothy 4:10 tells us:

“This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.”

Why do we continue to work hard and struggle? The answer is hope. For those who follow Jesus, we have a hope that is sure in our God who is alive! He is alive, He is actively working in our lives and the world around us, and He has an ultimate purpose for all things and all people. We are being made new every day, and one day God will make all things in heaven and on earth new. We are not working and struggling for nothing. We have a direction, we have a purpose, and God will break the cycle of sin and brokenness in this world and bring everything back into perfect submission to His will. We, the weary, can continue on, when we stop looking down and back at our current circumstances, and we start looking forward to our hope that is in Jesus, our living God.

My Prayer For You

Father, I thank you for our hope that is found in your Son. I thank you that we have a purpose and a direction. We have something to look forward to. I ask that you would relieve our weariness. Fill our hearts and minds with hope. Relieve the heaviness in our bodies and our minds. Heal us Lord, and give us hope. Amen.
